Desserts

My friend and I have both started printing out the good recipes we have found online.  We've discovered that if you don't, it can be hard to remember later where the recipe was, and sometimes the recipe is no longer there when you go back to it!  I saw my friends giant binder of recipes the last time I was at her house.  They are all in sheet protectors.  I asked her if she had them organized by categories, and she said, "Not yet."  I decided that for my Christmas gift to her, I would help her organizer her binder.  I went to Office Max and purchased a set of tabbed sheet protectors.  There are 8 in the pack.  I'm going to make sheets for different sections of a recipe album.  (I just hope I make categories she will use!)  Here is my first one:

The sketch for this page came from Sketch Saturday.  The word desserts is from the Cricut cartridge Cursive 101 (I welded the letters together on my Gypsy.)  The oval and piece of cake are from the From My Kitchen cartridge.  I ran the oval through the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder.

High School Football

Back to school means high school football time.  I made this card for a young relative who is on the football team.  I modeled the jersey after a picture of him in his football jersey.  I used Everyday Paper Dolls for the jersey, but I didn't use the football jersey.  I used the scientist's shirt from page 64 in the manual.  I used the hide contour feature on the gypsy to hide all of the interior cut lines.  I welded 2 of the shirts together to make a shape card.  I welded a square at the top of the back side of the jersey so it would only have a v-neck on the front.  The font for the numbers and the name on the back of the jersey is Plantin Schoolbook.  It's not a super match to the font on the real jersey, but it was the closest match I had.  The school name on the front was cut with Cursive 101.

Since the card was a darker color, I put this white rectangle inside the card to write the message.

The young man who received this card really seemed to appreciate it and was amazed how it looked just like his jersey.

School Days layout

I went scrapbooking with my some friends last weekend.  I've given up on scrapping all of my pictures (I'd never keep up!), but I try to scrap big trips I go on.  I haven't been on any trips lately, so I decided to scrap my pictures from school--the staff and class pictures won't fit in a regular slide-the-picture-in-the-slots album.  This is the title page I made:

I actually used the design from the cover of a stack of paper by The Paper Studio for inspiration.  The word "School" is from Opposites Attract.  "Days" is from Cursive 101.  The apple is from Doodlecharms.  The pencil is from Locker Talk, but I was using my Gypsy and didn't have the manual with me, which is helpful sometimes to figure out layering.  To make a long story short, I tried stretching an image on the Gypsy, it didn't turn out so well, and I had to make a few "adjustments" with a scissors.  So, this pencil doesn't quite look like either of the ones on the cart.

Superbowl birthdays--Go Pack Go!

My mom invited my husband and I over for lunch on Sunday to celebrate my dad's and my brother-in-law's birthdays.  Sunday evening, the Packers are in the Super Bowl, so I just had to design some Packer birthday cards!

I designed the Packer G on my Gypsy, welding together a G, C, and l from Opposites Attract.  I also designed the laces on the ball with the C and l from Opposites Attract.  The football is from Everyday Paper Dolls.  I used the tip from Fantabulous Cricut for cutting an additional football to go on top of the shape card.  That way, you don't see the flat edge where the fold is.  (I actually had my football card in mind before seeing the one on their blog!)  I used Cursive 101 to cut out the yellow letters.  I wanted to buy the Tiny Bubbles Cuttlebug folder for this project, but my local stores didn't have it and it seemed too expensive to order Cuttlebug folders online, so I settled for Swiss Dots.

Another music card :)

If you haven't noticed by now, just about everyone in my husband's family are musicians, and all of his siblings' birthdays are in the fall.  His brother Emilio plays sax, but I couldn't find a sax on any Cricut carts (They really need to make an all music cart.), so I used the Treble Clef sign from Curisve 101 to make this card.  I just got a Gypsy 2 days ago, so I am pretty proud of myself for making a card with it already!  I used 2 of the image with the "shadow blackout" feature selected.  I had to use "hide contour" to get rid of the paintbrush that also came with this image.  Then I flipped one of the images, put them back to back and welded them together.  I cut out another, regular version of the image in black with no features selected.  This card doesn't have a lot of room to write inside, but it could be used for just about anything--"Just a note," "A note of thanks," etc...
