Happy birthday TOOL you!

My dad and brother-in-law have birthdays a day apart.  They are both handy guys and I was inspired by a pun I came across on Pinterest.

The wrench is from the Cricut Indie Art cartridge and the hammer is from Everyday Paper Dolls.  It was not a layered image, so I cut out one in black and one in gray, cut the top off the black one and glued it on the gray one.  The oval is from Cricut Font and Basic Shapes.  I ran it through the Cuttlebug Diamonds in the Rough folder.

My friend's little girl is turning 8.  Knowing that they have several cats, I decided to go with that for making a card.  I used the cat and the word "purrfect" from Create a Critter.  The other words were printed from my computer.  The turquoise background was run through the Happy Birthday Cuttlebug folder.
I am getting her a package of embroidery floss for making friendship bracelets and a box to put the floss in.  I decided to use vinyl to put her name on the lid.  I used the Cindy Loo cartridge for that.

Lego birthday card

I needed to whip up three boy birthday cards this morning, and these Lego cards were quick and easy.  I just cut out three 1.25 inch circles and put them on foam tape.  Graphically Speaking is my go-to cartridge for circles.  The sentiment inside reads "I hope 'Everything is Awesome' on your birthday!"

I also made a green one, not pictured.

Here is another cow birthday card, in keeping with the tradition I have with my best friend.  I came across the pun on Pinterest.  The cow is from Create a Critter.  The orange piece on the left was run through the Spots and Dots Cuttlebug folder.

A FINtastic Birthday Card

I have a birthday party for a 2-year-old to go to this afternoon.  Part of his gift is a shirt with a shark on it, so I thought I'd make a card to match.  I like punny cards, but couldn't think of any shark ones.  A quick Google image search resulted in a FINtastic pun :)  Since the birthday boy is only 2, I thought a simple card would be fine.  I cut out the shark from Life's a Beach.  The dark gray layer on the cartridge is actually a thin border that gets glued on top of the lighter layer.  That sounded like a bit of a hassle to glue, and probably a frustration to cut out, so I modified it on my Gypsy so it was like a shadow layer.  I wish I had a water waves embossing folder, but I thought Chevron was close.  Unfortunately, I didn't plan that out ahead, and the "waves" go the wrong direction!

Snail Mail Belated Birthday Card

My dad's birthday was yesterday, so this will obviously be a belated card.  I chose the snail from Create a Critter to represent the slowness!  I hope that the colors I chose make what could be a girly image (with the flower on the snail shell) manly enough.

The sentiment inside reads, "Sorry I'm late.  Hope you had a happy birthday."

Butterfly Birthday Card

I am invited to a birthday party next weekend for a little girl who's turning 6.  I went with a simple design for her card:

The butterfly is from Create a Critter.  The background is embossed with D'Vine Swirls (one of my most used Cuttlebug folders!)

40th anniversary card

My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today and this is the card I made for them:

The sketch came from Mojo Monday.  The numbers are from my Plantin Schoolbook cartridge.  I made 2 cards, thinking that this could also be used as a 40th birthday card.

My friend Kristie is married to a farmer and we got into a habit several years ago of giving each other cow-related birthday cards.  It occurred to me this afternoon that her birthday is in 2 days, so I needed to get to work!

I used Animal Kingdom for the cow and Create a Critter for the hat.  The white paper was run through the Cuttlebug Spots and Dots folder and the pink circle was run through Swiss Dots.  My ribbon across the middle is recycled from a shopping bag handle.

Cash gift: Don't "blow it" all in one place!

When I gave my son's friend his last gift and he said "Aw, no bills?" I knew what I would be getting him for his birthday!  I came across this idea on Pinterest and thought that would be a fun way to give him the cash.  I taped together the bills, rolled them up and placed them in an empty tissue box.  They seemed to need something to keep the first bill from falling back down into the box though.  So, I created a top out of cardstock and taped the first bill to that.

The recipient likes alligators and crocodiles so much, he chose green as the first color for the bands on

 his braces!  This alligator is from Create a Critter.  I ran the brown background through my Happy Birthday Cuttlebug folder.  The sentiment was printed on my computer.

I used the card feature on A Child's Year to make this card for my mom.  The card feature always seems like a good idea, but then I'm never happy with the results.  I think it is the lack of layering.  I ran the background through the D'Vine Swirls Cuttlebug folder to add a little something to it.  I was in a bit of a hurry, so I wrote the sentiment by hand this time.

Have a COOL birthday!

I needed birthday cards for my brother-in-law and my dad.  Man cards are always tricky, and I was flipping through all my Cricut handbooks with no inspiration when my husband walked in.  He was actually the one who chose the image I used, the snowman from Smiley Cards.  The sketch came from Die Cuttin' Divas.  I do have to confess a goof, though.  I cut out my images and shut my Gypsy off without saving.  Usually I make sure everything is good before doing that, but of course not this time.  As I went to put my snowmen together, I realized that I must have chosen the shadow image for the base.  His hat and other accessories are too small!  I didn't want to start over at this point though, so I just went with it, hoping it looks like I did that on purpose!  The oval is from A Child's Year (It was a tag, but I removed the little hole with my Gypsy).  I ran it through my Cuttlebug Snowflakes folder.  The little glittery snowflakes in the upper corners were leftover from my Christmas cards, so they are actually the center of the O from the word JOY from Create a Critter.

I always like punny sentiments, so I used my computer to print "Have a COOL birthday!" on the cardstock before I cut it for the card.

I have a friend who is a farmer.  She and I have exchanged cow themed cards for years.  I'm running out of cow puns though, and since she also has chickens (I buy my eggs from her) I decided to go with an egg themed card.  The sentiment inside says "Have an EGGcellent birthday!"

Again, please excuse the poor photography.  I had to use the camera on my laptop.

The tag is from Tags, Bags, Boxes and More.  The brown eggs are from Smiley Cards.  The cracked egg on the tag was cut freehand with scissors.

My sister's birthday is approaching and she used to love lambs (or "woolies" as she called them) when she was younger, so I decided to incorporate one into her card.  I made a few extras also to add to my stash.

Purrrfect birthday

My mom's birthday is this week and despite being super busy, she is one person I don't want to give a store-bought card to.  So, here is a card I whipped up tonight.
Mom is a cat lover, so I used the cat face from Animal Kingdom.  I used my Cricut markers to outline his face and gave him some googly eyes.  In my hurry, I decided to hand write the sentiment rather than use my computer.  I just wish I would have thought to run the blue through my Cuttlebug before I taped it to the other piece.

Happy Birthday to a real classic!

Mom invited my husband and I over to celebrate my dad's birthday tomorrow, so I couldn't put off making his card any longer!

The car and circles came from Holiday Cakes, a cartridge I'd picked up a while ago because it was a good price and I figured a variety of holiday images can always come in handy.  I hadn't used it until today though.  The black circle was run through the Diamonds in the Rough Cuttlebug folder and the green strip was run through the Spots and Dots folder.  With the patterned paper, I figured I'd better put the sentiment on one of the red circles, but I didn't have a stamp that small and didn't want to mess around with my computer printer, so I went with handwritten sentiments this time.

My first Wild Card

I got the Wild Card cartridge in August and hadn't used it yet.  I wanted to make a couple of cards but didn't have a ton of time to spend planning a layout, so I thought I'd give this cart a try.  The cards were pretty quick to make, but I'm not thrilled with how they turned out.  They look like the cards I made when I first started.  I'm posting them anyway, and am open to any suggestions.

As I said, I used Wild Card.  I stamped the top of one of the cupcakes with my sister-in-law's name (I recently found her name stamp in a clearance bin!) and made 2 others that just said Happy Birthday.  I ran the cupcake top through the D'Vine Swirls Cuttlebug folder (Seems like all cupcake tops are.)  I added a bit of glitter glue to the flame of the candle.

¡Feliz cuu-uuu-uumpleaños!

My brother and sister-in-law both have a birthday this month and the other brother-in-law has a birthday in November, so it was time to get back to cardmaking.  I often let the challenges guide my inspiration, and that is what happened this time.  The sentiment is my attempt at making a Spanish pun.  "Feliz cumpleaños" is, of course, Happy Birthday.  In Spanish, owls say "uuuuu."

All of the cuts came from the Storybook cartridge.  I had to cut out the owl a couple of times in different colors to create the layering.  The yellow backgrounds were run through the Distressed Stripes Cuttlebug folder and the green circle was run through the Swiss Dots folder.  The sentiment was printed on my computer.  When I showed it to my hubby, he laughed out loud and said it was the funniest card I've made!  Not bad for inventing a pun in my second language :)
